Behind the numbers

Every feed has its own reporting schedule.

Leading ≠ won. Blue means a Democratic lead; red means a Republican lead. Other parties are purple. Nonpartisan leads are slate; ties and races without votes are neutral. Ballot questions use teal for Yes and amber for No. Vote bars show each choice’s share of reported candidate/choice votes, not the percentage of all ballots counted.

Official state and local totals remain unofficial until certified. “AP projected” appears only when the national feed explicitly calls a race. Reported precincts/areas are not a count of all ballots. Some contests allow multiple selections. Ranked-choice contests may require later rounds. A feed that stops responding retains its last fetched totals with a visible warning.
